Oh no, not again

In the grand tradition of me missing things that I’ve been looking forward to for months (eg Napoleon Dynamite, Ghost World, etc), I won’t be able to see the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy tonight. My Dad bought tickets to The Gondoliers, so instead of watching Vogons blow up earth, I’ll be watching a bunch of Italians whining in song about how they’ll have to leave their randomly selected, yet fiercely loyal lady-loves if they want to become king. Why can’t someone write a libretto about having their home blown up? I’m sure Rent could be adapted; you just have to get rid of all that stuff about AIDS.

What’s really getting to me is that this looking-forward-to spans into the years, let alone months. I remember sitting around in high school outside the yearbook office, having lunch and speculating about who would play whom. (At this point, there had been rumours that a movie might be made. Although, we probably would have speculated anyway.) I always thought Bruce Campbell would make the best Zaphod Beeblebrox, but then again, I thought Bruce Campbell would make the best Superman, the best Batman and the best salad dressing. I’m sure this new guy (am i rite? That’s a subtle reference for all those Sam Rockwell fans out there) will do great, though. I’ve liked everything else he’s done. I hear they’ve avoided the papier- mache- second- head- lolling- around- and- looking- stupid curse of the BBC miniseries. I can’t wait to see how that guy from Love, Actually handles Slartibartfast.

OMG! I’m so excited! Who’s Humma Kavula, and how is John Malkovich managing to make it okay to me that he’s been added to the movie? I’ve never seen him act in anything, and yet already I am in love with Mos Def.

Woah, that’s gotta be a first: I saw a movie before you did! Paul and I went to see it last night…

About half the cast is from Love Actually as well — it’s a little bizarre. I’m not gonna say anything about what I thought of it, cause I know you’ll see it quite soon and I think it’s best you see it without bias.

But yeah, Bruce Campbell would’ve been awesome.
