Cooking With Dog

This is not good, guys. You see, I’ve started making bentos. I have been easing myself into it by buying a Lock & Lock box instead of something cartoonish, because I haven’t been able to find any local places that have lots of wacky bento stuff. I bought the Lock & Lock box at a “dollar store” in Markham, but if you don’t have the luck of living near an entire City Of Asians you can also buy them at Sears. I heavily recommend Lock & Lock; I haven’t had any leakage whatsoever and they are very sturdy with dividers that you can take out. They also have just enough space for a big lunch with a little on the side for a snack later on.

So far, I haven’t done anything elaborate. I normally make sandwiches or put in some leftover rice and veggies, and I haven’t put any nori faces on anything. But now that I’ve been packing bento-ish lunches, I have been keeping track of the goodies I’d like to be able to take with me, like food dividers and sauce cups. So I’ve been eBaying, and I’m terribly worried that I’m going to get carried away and end up buying a novelty Shinkansen bag or a set of 20 animal soy sauce bottles. Do I even need 20 soy sauce bottles? No, no I don’t. Right now there are 76 items on my eBay watch list. Most of them are doubles, but I am still afraid of what I might do. I think if I can resist the Shinkansen lunch bag I will be safe.

Oh yeah, I should talk about the video above! It is a show where a woman cooks with her dog. There is a lot of fast talking and sometimes they zoom past the Japanese words without explaining what they are, but I still like the series. I am going to try making onigiri for a lunch next week. I’ve also got to find a bamboo steamer so I can steam the frozen pork buns I bought on Sunday. Yum yum!

This one is blowing my mind. There are so many tips! I want to make something with eggplant now.
