It’s like reading James Joyce

Some people are just jerks

January 21st, 2009 at 5:24 pm (Tales of the Swamp)

Today, an old man on the streetcar spent 5 minutes yelling at me and insulting my character, my intelligence, and my parents. He told me that I was stupid and that my parents hadn’t raised me properly. He told me that the youth of today didn’t have any consideration for others, and generally ranted through 4 streetcar stops that I and the two people behind me were horrible human beings.

And why did he say these things? What on earth could have motivated him to speak with such utter disrespect for complete strangers?

We were wearing backpacks on the streetcar.

Now, I do concede that I could have taken my backpack off my back and held it in my hands. In fact, I would have gladly done so if he had asked me. But instead of asking me, he spent a fair amount of time yelling at me and ruining my whole day. And I fucking hate that. I fucking hate having my day ruined by some bitter prick whose own mother clearly didn’t teach him to show respect for other people.

So, to the mystery man who yelled at me today for no reason: I hope someday you realize what a fucking asshole you are.

On a side note: This is the second time that someone has said to me that “you kids go to university, but you’re still stupid.” In both cases, it has been an older, blue-collar guy on a TTC streetcar. Coincidence?

Sexism-O’s

January 16th, 2009 at 8:27 am (Food, Gender)

I sent an angry letter to General Mills today. On the back of their Cheerios boxes they say, “Generations of moms have given Cheerios cereal to their toddlers as an ideal finger food to help them grow healthy and strong.” This shit is getting really annoying. You know who fucking gave me my Cheerios? My Dad. And my Mom.

Fucking Cheerios assholes.

(I was a little more polite in my letter than I am on this site. Just in case Cheerios employs children to screen its mail.)

Blue & White

January 10th, 2009 at 7:25 pm (Life Lessons)

Royal Albert Blue Oriental

I have developed a bit of an obsession with blue and white china. This post inspired me to follow the author’s lead and stick to blue and/or white in all of my future purchases, so that everything would match.

(I broke the rule pretty quickly, buying a set of green and white plates and these ridiculously loud, insanely brilliant brown bowls that I’ve packed away already and can’t document with pictures. But that is beyond the point.)

My mom discovered this obsession with blue and white, got really excited that I might be developing an interest in wifely-type things, and for Christmas the whole family bought be a big set of blue and white dishes to start me off:

Pier 1 Blue Plates

So with that as a base, I’m looking through various blue and white patterns on craigslist and eBay. I’m not sure what exactly I’ll eventually land on (it will probably be whatever I find at Goodwill or VV), but it’s fun to look and drool.

(I’m also really into milk glass.)
