I just wrote a letter to Michael Moore for some reason.

Dear Michael,

I am upset to hear that you are calling the rape allegations against Julian Assange hooey. While it may be that governments are taking advantage of the claims to discredit him, it is unfair to the women involved in the case to write them off completely, assume that they are lying, or state that what was alleged was not rape.

With one woman, the condom broke and she wanted him to stop. Instead of complying, he held her down until he was finished. With the other, he had unprotected sex while she was asleep. Both of these situations sound very scary to me, as a woman, and they do indeed sound like rape.

The charge isn’t about whether or not the condom broke; it’s what he did after the condom broke. That is a very important point, and I hope that you will take that into consideration in the future. The details of the allegations are being misrepresented by most major media outlets; it’s your chance to prove them wrong.

A running tally of anti-intellectualism by Conservatives

I’m starting a list of quotes from Stephen Harper (and other Conservatives) that are based on the cynical, GOP-style tactic of demonizing all things intelligent. With the attack on the census and the gun registry in full swing, this government is adopting a style of electioneering that is growing more and more similar to our Republican friends to the south. First among these strategies is to paint the Liberals as elitist, intellectual panty-waists who aren’t manly enough to wear a cowboy costume at a Calgary Stampede photo-op. Does it matter if intellectualism has no relation to the subject of political attack? Of course not!

This list will grow in step with my frustration.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010:
“Today I listened to the Liberals claiming that people who oppose the long-gun registry are just a bunch of U.S. gun lobbyists,” Harper said. “Now this, friends, is typical of the arrogant, intellectual contempt in which the Liberal Party holds so many people, especially in rural Canada.”
See, gun owners? They think you’re dumb! That’s why they want to track your guns! Because… because… they… are… elitist? And they think you’re dumb! (Nailed it!)
Thursday, September 16, 2010:
“I share the disappointment of many of my colleagues that people who had fought so long, so hard, so passionately against the registry are now feeling the pressure from the two Toronto leaders, Mr. Ignatieff and Mr. Layton,” [John] Baird said. “We’re all accountable. If we make clear and unambiguous promises in our constituencies and then face pressure from Toronto elites, we’ll be accountable for that.”
Hammer that word home!

Always remember, Michael Ignatieff has written books! And books are bad. They sometimes contain facts, which never stand up to common sense, down home preconceptions. Elitism!

My prediction for the next few months is that they will start referring to those from rural Canada as “Real Canadians.”
