Finally, a Successful Broiled Chicken
So I hate making chicken that isn’t stir-fried, almost to the point that my only dish is curry. I’ve never come across a broiled chicken that I liked. I had some chicken thighs in the freezer today, so I thought I would try my hand at baking again. This time it worked! It was delicious.
I used this recipe for Easy Garlic Broiled Chicken, with various modifications to form the following recipe:
INGREDIENTS
- 1/3 cup oil
- 3 tablespoons minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- a few shakes of garlic spice mix
- 6 boneless chicken thighs, with skin
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 350 C. Lightly grease a baking pan.
- In a microwave safe bowl, mix the oil, garlic, soy sauce, pepper, and spice mix. Cook 2 minutes on High in the microwave.
- Arrange chicken on the baking pan, and coat with the oil mixture, reserving some of the mixture for basting.
- Bake chicken 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until juices run clear, turning occasionally and basting with remaining butter mixture. Serve with rice. Receive surprising compliments from extremely picky boyfriend.
Keyboard Waffle Iron
This waffle iron is made from an old typewriter keyboard. Hopefully they cleaned out the keys.
My favourite novelty waffle iron is of course that for FC Bayern München (my favourite soccer/football team), but there are waffle irons for every interest/fetish. More novelty waffle irons make the shapes of penguins, Hello Kitty, and Cinderella.

Easiest Dessert Ever
Dump crushed pineapple and juices into a 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
Dump cherries.
Dump cake mix.
Recipe managers
I’m looking for a recipe manager that I can either have on my Mac or host on my website to keep track of all the recipes I collect. I was writing one as a Christmas present to my mom a few years ago but I never finished it. I believe I knit her a scarf instead. A web-based organizer would be nice, but a bit of mac software would probably be quicker and offer better organization. What I eventually use should have four things:
- XML compatibility of some kind
- Quick search by ingredient, rating, type, etc
- Some sort of rating system that keeps track of things I’ve tried and special notes
- Automatic parsing of the information I input. I don’t want to painstakingly add each ingredient and instruction to this manager, I have hundreds of recipes.
I’m considering Mac Gourmet, although I haven’t checked if it’s XML compliant. Other possibilities:
Best Banana Bread Recipe Ever!
The beau and I decided to bake some banana bread yesterday. The original plan was to grab I’m Just Here for More Food by Alton Brown but the library only had the first one. So I got stuck with looking for a recipe on the internet.
I found this Moist Banana Bread recipe, and it’s absolutely fantastic! We substituted margarine for butter because the only butter we had was salted. We also used brown instead of white sugar. It turned out amazing! I want to make it again, but this time with white sugar and butter because apparently it’s the perfect recipe, so I want to emulate it perfectly.
