Computer LOLZ

Dad: …So an assertion in Eiffel checks to see if something is true or false before or after a loop for example, or *blah blah blah* classes, *blah blah blah* loop invariance, *blah blah blah* and if it’s false, then it blows its stack.

Eve: More like pops its stack, right Dad? Am I right?

Dad: *silence*

Eve: Am I right? *grinning*

Dad: *continues on, ignoring Eve’s clever joke*

Eve: *grinning*

Manipulating stacks (a kind of data structure) involves “popping” and “pushing” various kinds of data around. You “pop” the top object off a stack to fiddle with it, and you “push” objects down onto the stack when you’re done with them. The nature of a stack is that only the object on the very top can be futzed with, so everything else in the stack is safe from being fucked up, which makes it tres useful in certain esoteric situations.

Mind you, that ‘feature’ makes it annoying if you need to access something from lower down on the stack, or maybe search the stack, although these days the programming languages are abstratcted enough that stacks are old news, unless you’re doing a “project” for “learning purposes” when they make you work on stacks for, like, WEEKS and you just want to scream and you start to consider sneaking into your prof’s house and stealing all of his computers and maybe kidnapping his wife just so THE PAIN WILL END.

    Er, maybe that’s just me.
