Back 2 Skool

August 31st, 2006 at 10:11 am (Life Lessons)

There’s an Ask the Readers post at Lifehacker about how to get cheap textbooks. Aside from Project Gutenberg and now Google Book downloads, here are some sites that were mentioned:

(The general consensus is that things are cheaper online.)

In addition, here are some free Mac programs that could prove useful: iProcrastinate for organization and Transmission for Torrenting.

Any suggestions from the audience?

UPDATE, August 14th, 2007: I’m checking out Statistics by William Hays (ISBN 0030744679) right now and the most useful sites seem to be Big Words and CampusBooks, BestBookDeal. AddALL book search and Best Web Buys replicate what the other sites are doing but don’t have as long a list of comparison sites. The cheapest place I found for this $140 textbook was Half.com ($40) and eBay ($30).

To call attention to the 310 million liters of water (equivalent to 82 Olympic swimming pools!) wasted by businesses everyday, UK government program Envirowise has set up a “fully functioning” aquatic office in the London Aquarium.
