VIRUS ALERT

November 8th, 2008 at 5:37 pm (The Internet)

One of the computers I sometimes use for MSN has had a virus for about a week. The virus hangs around for a bit and every once in a while it sends the following link to people you are talking to:

http :// mypics4you . my . funpic . org / ViewImage . php

DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK.

I REPEAT: DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK. IT WILL GIVE YOU A VIRUS. I am merely showing it to you so you can avoid it.

I have been searching around and I haven’t found any information on the virus, so I’m assuming it’s fairly new. I grew suspicious a few days ago when a program called 613.exe attempted to contact the internet, as well as 580.exe. My suggestion is not to give either of them any permissions. They will hound you over and over to allow them access; find where they are and delete them. Don’t give up on clicking the “Block” button.

Stupid goddamn asshats. Who in their right mind could get a thrill from being an asshole like this? It’s pathetic.

More information as I retrieve it.

Early blogging

May 2nd, 2007 at 9:28 am (This Blog is Self-Referential, Tales of the Swamp, Arts & Culture, The Internet)

So I was chatting with Riz and Jason yesterday at “Wing Night,” and Jason started talking about Martin Luther or something, and apparently it was a pretty common thing to nail announcements to church doors. I thought he was just being impertinent or something when he did that.

Anyhoo, I think it would have been funny if someone starting posting there regularly, like it were a blog. Only he wouldn’t know it was a blog, because blogs didn’t exist back then. He would write things like, “hay guys, check out this cool painting I found of a cat playing piano” and then spend 5 pages complaining about how the guy at Microplay refuse to sell him the new release of the hoop and stick.

Line Rider

This is really cute. You draw a bunch of lines and the little guy sleds down the lines. Sort of like Sketch Fighter, only without airplanes.

Damn you, Transmit 3.5.6!!

February 28th, 2007 at 3:59 pm (Nerdz0r3d, The Internet)

My FTP program has somehow kicked the bucket. I can’t login to my server for some reason, so I’ve been having to use a crappy web-based java applet to transfer files. Never again! I’m positive that it’s a problem with Transmit (a mac FTP program) because it I upgrade to 3.5.6 then the problem goes away. But then it yells at me that I’m pirating software! Stupid Transmit. Anyhoo, suggestions are welcome for a better / equally nice freeware Mac FTP program.

Side note: Is Fugu any good?

20 ways to manage todos on Lifehacker

January 8th, 2007 at 9:54 pm (Life Lessons, The Internet)

Lifehacker has a thing on 20 ways to manage todos. They also mention Book darts, which sounds pretty neat. A sustainable alternative to post-its, which lose their glue after a while and can’t be reused.

Bid Nearby

January 7th, 2007 at 4:53 pm (The Internet)

I bought a Playstation 2 through Craigslist a few months ago to avoid having to pay insane shipping. Bid Nearby uses info from Craigslist, ebay and Amazon to help you find local sellers and avoid all the hassles that come with online shopping. I’ve been looking for a wool winder for the past while, so maybe now I can use this site to buy one for less than $40 shipping.
