This is not good, guys. You see, I’ve started making bentos. I have been easing myself into it by buying a Lock & Lock box instead of something cartoonish, because I haven’t been able to find any local places that have lots of wacky bento stuff. I bought the Lock & Lock box at a “dollar store” in Markham, but if you don’t have the luck of living near an entire City Of Asians you can also buy them at Sears. I heavily recommend Lock & Lock; I haven’t had any leakage whatsoever and they are very sturdy with dividers that you can take out. They also have just enough space for a big lunch with a little on the side for a snack later on.
So far, I haven’t done anything elaborate. I normally make sandwiches or put in some leftover rice and veggies, and I haven’t put any nori faces on anything. But now that I’ve been packing bento-ish lunches, I have been keeping track of the goodies I’d like to be able to take with me, like food dividers and sauce cups. So I’ve been eBaying, and I’m terribly worried that I’m going to get carried away and end up buying a novelty Shinkansen bag or a set of 20 animal soy sauce bottles. Do I even need 20 soy sauce bottles? No, no I don’t. Right now there are 76 items on my eBay watch list. Most of them are doubles, but I am still afraid of what I might do. I think if I can resist the Shinkansen lunch bag I will be safe.
Oh yeah, I should talk about the video above! It is a show where a woman cooks with her dog. There is a lot of fast talking and sometimes they zoom past the Japanese words without explaining what they are, but I still like the series. I am going to try making onigiri for a lunch next week. I’ve also got to find a bamboo steamer so I can steam the frozen pork buns I bought on Sunday. Yum yum!
This one is blowing my mind. There are so many tips! I want to make something with eggplant now.
Someone in Germany is driving an automobile built for UK roads and has installed a Muppet in the passenger seat. The speed cameras in Germany are made to take photos of drivers who sit in the left side of the vehicle, so drivers of UK-style cars can’t be easily identified.
A German police source said: “This may be an example of the famous British sense of humour but it is still dangerous driving.”
My brother came back from university at 5am this morning instead of 5pm this evening because he couldn’t sleep at his house. His housemate came home roaring drunk and blasted the TV, at which point my brother told him to turn down the television, at which point he served my brother with papers for $1,000 in damages by leaving a document at his door while my brother was trying to get to sleep. I am not making this up.
This, by the way, is the same housemate who bragged about stealing money from his work and then getting another girl fired for it because it was her till that was missing the money. I am only mentioning this because it speaks to his character.
There are many things I wish I could say to this guy without having to worry that he would hold it against my brother.
UPDATE, 1:44PM: Now the kid is saying he never officially filed papers with a court and he lied about getting his lawyer involved. Hopefully one day he will learn the error of his ways. And by “his ways,” I mean “being a dick.” The moral of this story is: never threaten legal action while drunk.
I have been trying to find articles about gender differences in eye tracking for two days, with absolutely no luck. Then, finally, I find one. That would be fantastic, except that of the 18 copies that apparently exist, not one of those PDFs is functional! If you can’t tell over the Internet, I am weeping right now. That ascii puddle beneath this post, that’s my tears.
